The humble garden snail is all around you and often overlooked - literally and metaphorically. It has a long ancestry and the aristocratic title that reflects this is Cornu aspersum. My blog hopes to endear you to this charming mollusc by providing verified information and amusement. There will be 3 threads which will be labelled for easy navigation:
1) Snailed it: scientific facts about the garden snail. A positive Cornu-copia of things you need to know
2) I am snailing: my personal experience of setting up a vivarium and caring for Cornu aspersum
3j The Escargatoire: the secret life of the snail. A gripping revelation of the inner thoughts, romances and adventures of these gastropod characters.
Although The Escargatoire is set in Dampbridge, any resemblance to a long-running series on BBC R4 is entirely coincidental.
I am indebted to Rodney I. Rudd for his excellent book on the “Garden snail, biology and care” with its authoritative information on this lovable creature.
